Affibody’s Albumod™ technology is designed to enhance the efficacy of biopharmaceuticals by extending their circulatory half-life, thereby allowing for less frequent dosing and lower peak concentrations in blood with a decreased risk for adverse events. Furthermore, the Albumod™ technology may potentially be used to evade an immune response. In addition to these patient safety benefits, the overall treatment costs are reduced.

The core of the technology is the Albumin Binding Domain (ABD), a small binding protein engineered to bind human serum albumin with a very high affinity. Due to the extremely tight binding, the complex behaves as a serum albumin fusion protein. Thereby, a fusion protein containing ABD obtains a circulatory half-life identical to serum albumin and displays a rapid and wide biodistribution, superior to antibodies.
